American Black Film Festival Crown ISSA RAE As NEW CREATIVE DIRECTOR

American Black Film Festival and Issa Rae, Producer of HBO’s “Insecure” and “Rap Sh*t” have teamed Up

This month’s American Black Film Festival (ABFF) has partnered with Issa Rae as the newly-appointed Creative Director. The festival will take place June 12 - 16, 2024 in Miami Beach, Fla. Various events throughout the festival include an opening ceremony with the HBO Short Film Award, a “Navigating the Pathways to Representation” panel discussion, a chat about voice acting and Best of ABFF Awards” Ceremony. Passes for the event start at $150.

Rae has been an innovator in the film space since the releasing YouTube series “Awkward Black Girl” in 2011. The show was a cult favorite and the predecessor for “Insecure” which was picked up by HBO. That show was the launchpad for her ascension to international media mogul.This is a newly-created role and Rae will work closely with ABFF planners to program the lineup for the festival’s 28th edition. “We couldn’t think of a better partner to help us continue to embody the ABFF mission of showcasing Black talent — and discovering and amplifying new voices,” ABFF co-founders and producers Nicole and Jeff Friday said.
