5 Ways to Find Great Restaurants for Festivals
Keith Lee’s recent trip to Atlanta has put their food scene in a tailspin. While being honest and always respectful, he brought some mid food and odd customer experiences to the forefront. If you’re not familiar with Lee, he’s a former MMA fighter that rates restaurant’s food and customer z. He started in Las Vegas but now he visits popular cities around the country. It’s unclear exactly when he was in Atlanta but appears that he was in the city during One Musicfest.
Whenever you travel for a festival, you’ll want to try some great food, especially after moving around outside all day, but customer service shouldn’t have to be compromised. Check out the list below for five ways to have a positive culinary experience when you during your festival travels.
Don’t do it for the ‘Gram
Spots that are popular and already have a high following aren’t a great idea on weekends that are full of tourists with the same thing in mind. If you’ve just gotta try it, call ahead to ask what their policies are and expect to wait.
Try an “Ethnic” Spot
Jamaican, Ethiopian, Indian, Nigerian, Thai, doesn’t matter. Places without all the pomp and circumstance often have the best food. Venture out, expand your palette and support a local business. You’ll be doing your tastebuds and a family-owned establishment some good.
Grab Some Vegan Soul Food
Vegan soul food spots are on the rise and for good reason. Eating occasional meatless dishes that focus on our wellness and sustenance is part of our history, no matter which area of the Diaspora you’re from. If you’re not into carrot hotdogs, I understand (sorry Tabitha Brown). Meat replacements have improved by leaps and bounds and Black-owned brands like Slutty Vegan, Legendary Burgers and Atlas Monroe are so pack with flavor that you won’t miss the meat.
Eat Like a Local
While you’re enjoying your festival experience, ask the people that live in the area where the foodie best spots are. I usually ask Lyft drivers or hotel employees where they eat and they always give me great recommendations. You’ll find a plethora of hidden gems if you ask the right people. When it comes to festivals and food this is a great time to get away from the “ follow the leader” mentality. Whether it’s a five-star restaurant or “hole in the wall”, you’ll have a better customer service experience because most locals know where the A-1 places are.
